The ADPL can announce that entries are now being taken for this season's flagship Doubles event. The entry fee will remain at £10 per double.

The deadline for entries for this competition is Sunday 6th April at 7.00pm. All entries must be handed into Shotz Pool and Snooker Hall on the appropriate forms for the attention of the Match Secretary or Treasurer, or handed to them in person. If Captains are dropping their entries into Shotz Pool and Snooker Hall please send the Match Secretary a text to confirm you have done so.

The event will be held on Saturday 12th April at Shotz Pool and Snooker Hall, Arbroath. Players must be registered to the ADPL to play in this event.

The playing format will be a round-robin group stage; playing races best of, potentially, three frames in each match. This will be dependent on entry levels and the number of groups will also be determined by this. Group winners will be joined by the best placed teams in second. Teams will be separated by frames won then frames conceded, any teams tied after this will have to face a sudden death playoff.

The group stage will play out to determine the Last 16, where the event shall become a knockout stage with matches best of five frames.

A reminder that doubles in the ADPL are played to the 'scotch doubles' format, with a stop clock on the day for matches that may be taking longer than expected.

Hi,

What was the reason for changing the date of this to the week after the Challenge Trophy? I would think this will have an impact on the entries for both competitions with some players likely ”picking and choosing” which event to play in now?

Also, what were the reasons for the Doubles staying as a one day event and keeping the qualifying matches out of local pubs? I was under the influence that last years one day format was a trial for the committee to decide on how it would be played going forward. As far as I could tell a few players felt that the one day format felt like a flyer as opposed to one of the ADPL’s flagship events last year. Don’t get me wrong, it went well, no hiccups on the day, but still taking doubles nights away from the leagues Publicans and making it seem a less prestigious event to win.

Thanks

Hi Scott.

Unfortunately there was a clash with a national finals event, so we've had to take the unenviable decision to change the date of our flagship Doubles event. The only date available, and you'll be well aware of the calednar congestion after dicussions with you for events at the Portcullis, was the 12th April. Not ideal by any stretch of the imagination, but the Committee agreed this was the only viable option.

Regarding the format, with the positive feedback received at the event and thereafter, it was an easy decision to continue with the format. You, when running the event last year, took alot of that positive feedback and shared it with the Committee. I thought that might have been well placed for you to understand that logic. Even during the event last year you has discussions with me regarding longer races and differing format to suit the entry numbers.

Regards,
Michael

No worries, wasn’t aware there was a national finals event the same weekend, hence why I asked.

Feedback was mixed from what I can remember but I remember the general consensus was old format was better and felt more prestigious with players having to win over a series of dates. Perhaps I’m mistaken though.

Cheers for answering mate
