Congratulations to Newgate A (Gareth Ruxton, Kent Mitchell, Rikki McWalter and Chris Smith), who are this years 4-Man Team Champions.  They overcame a very good Shotz 3 team, Michael Emslie, James Curran, Peem Twaddle and Craig Sandford, in the final by three frames to one.

Both teams played the match in the spirit that the 4-Man team brings out, both teams enjoying the occasion and having a laugh during it.  Well done to both teams.

A mention for Team Brown who were the plate winners this year, beating Shotz 2A on penalties.

Thanks go to everyone at Shotz for their continued sponsoring of the event and hosting!

Congratulations to our President, Gordon Smith who is the 2018 Cliffburn Singles Champion. Gordon beat Colin Brown in the final, by five frames to three.

A worthy champion and showed true grit and determination after falling behind 2-0, only to claw it back and lead 4-2. Colin got another frame on the board but it was short lived hope as Gordon took out a neat finish to win the title!

Thanks again to Bobby Din and his staff at the Cliffburn for their sponsorship and hospitality.

The ADPL Charity 4-Man Team will be played on Tuesday 10th April. It will be held in Shotz Pool and Snooker Hall, and the event shall start at 7pm.

The deadline for entries is Saturday 7th April, entry remains 10 per team. All entries are added to the Charity pot and will be handed over to the ADPL chosen charity.

The format will likely be similar to last years, with a straight knockout and a plate event for all first round losing teams. This guarantees at least two matches for each team. Again, it will all depend on the interest levels.

Each match will be four singles and a penalty shootout should the match be tied at 2-2.
Division 1 Cup Champions - Shotz 2

News Images: 2018_division_1_cup_champions_-_shotz_2_-_resized.jpg

Congratulations to Shotz 2, who are the inaugural Division 1 Cup Champions after defeating a very strong Portcullis 1 in the final. The match was nip and tuck all the way with neither team able to establish a two frame lead through the nine singles, at the half way point Shotz 2 led 5-4. Both teams then stepped up a gear and a frame in each column made it 6-5 to Shotz 2. Shotz 2 then finally got the winning frame and won the match 7-5.

Congratulations to Marc Fleming and his team, inflicting the first defeat of the season upon David Williams' Portcullis 1.

Thanks are extended to Richard and Brenda for accommodating the final and hosting again, their continued support is appreciated.

Doubles Reschedule
As you are all aware the doubles scheduled for 28th February were postponed due to the adverse weather. As a result the Committee have had an important decision to make regarding the rescheduling of the Doubles rounds to ensure the finalists are reached before Finals Day.

As a result, it has been decided to move each Doubles date forward to the scheduled dates (i.e. Last 32 to original Last 16 date and so on). This means a new date is required for the Quarter and Semi-Finals night. This will now be WEDNESDAY 16TH MAY. We understand this is a new date and this is unprecedented but we hope that everyone understands this is a situation that was outwith the control of the ADPL.

So in summary the dates for the Doubles are now:-

4th April - Last 32
2nd May - Last 16
16th May - Quarter and Semi-Finals
Consolation Cup - Last 16
The Consolation Cup Last 16 will be played on Wednesday 18th April. The draw for the Last 16 stage was made at our recent Committee Meeting.

The draw for the Last 16 stage is as follows:

Bowlers v Fishermans
Abbey v West Port
Legion 2 v Railway
Shotz 5 v Shotz 4
Letham v Ram's Heid 1
Anchor Bar v St Tams
Shotz 3 v Ram's Heid 2
Stag 2 v Newgate 2

The format, as with all cup matches, will be nine singles and four doubles. Usual sign-in time of 8:00pm. The Home team is responsible for submitting the score to the Match Secretary upon completion of the match.

The winning teams from these fixtures will go on to contest the quarter finals at ADPL Finals Day.
***DIVISION 2 ANNOUNCEMENT*** Shotz 5 withdraw from League

Shotz 5 withdraw from League

Unfortunately, Shotz 5 have advised the ADPL Committee that they are withdrawing from the league with immediate effect. This is due to them being unable to field a team each week and subsequently the team has folded. I would note that the team Captain tried his very best to resolve the situation without having to fold the team but was left with no other option.

All remaining fixtures will now be awarded as 12-0 for Shotz 5's opponents.

Division 2 Cup Champions - Stag 2

Congratulations to the Stag 2, this years Division 2 Cup Champions after a narrow 7-5 victory against Ram’s Heid 2.

The Ram’s looked like they were going to steam roll their way to victory after taking a 4-1 lead but they were pegged back and led 5-4 after the singles. The Stag then stepped it up and took the next three frames to win the Cup!

2017-18 Shotz Singles

The second annual Shotz Singles event took place last Saturday.  Colin Brown fought hard to retain the title he won last year and is still the Shotz Singles Champion!

Well done to Colin, winning these local events is not easy and retaining the title highlights the standard Colin is currently playing at.  Colin’s opponent in the final was Graham Dunbar, who himself has been playing fantastic so far this season and was looking to add to his recent Masters title win.  Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and Graham was defeated 6-3.

This year’s semi-finalists were David Williams and John Maud.  Thanks go to the sponsors and hosts, Shotz, and also to their staff for keeping the players fed and watered throughout the tournament.

2017-18 ADPL Grassroots

and Lee Strachan (Runner-Up)

The 2017-18 ADPL Grassroots competition attracted a good quality field with 62 entries.  The second competition of the ADPL season saw the players head for the Cliffburn.  The early rounds had some exciting matches and they didn’t disappoint where some perceived favourites hit the exit door.
After battling it out the last four saw Michael Emslie face Sam McWalter and Lee Strachan take on teammate Mark Donald.  Michael had to dig deep and fend off Sam in a final frame decider after surrendering a 3-1 lead.  Lee on the other hand played some patient pool and defeated Mark by a 4-0 scoreline.

The final saw two very different players go toe to toe for the title.  Lee got his nose in front at 2-0 but Michael reversed the arrears and it was 2-2.  From there the pendulum swung Michael’s direction and he got himself two frames in front at 4-2.  Lee clawed one frame back but Michael took the next to finish the match and with that is the 2017-18 Grassroots Champion.  Very hard luck to Lee who should still be very pleased with his efforts on the day.

Our thanks are extended to host and sponsor Bobby Din and his team at the Cliffburn Hotel for again tending to our needs and making us all feel so welcome.
