2024 SPA Willie McCartney Trophy - Entry Information The entry deadline for this year’s event is TUESDAY 4th June at 7pm. The National Finals shall be held at Shotz, Dundee over the weekend of 10th and 11th August. Entry fee for this event is £5 per player. Plus the £5 SPA Membership for those players not already subscribed. Races in local qualifying will be first to six. Entry Criteria 1. Any player who was previously ineligible is still ineligible. 2. Any player who have been asked to represent Scotland at A and/or B Level is ineligible. 3. Tournament winners are ineligible. This includes IM's, Tours etc. 4. [b]2024 SPA Mick McGoldrick Individual Membership Series of Events[/b] The SPA are delighted to announce that McGoldrick’s Pool and Sports Bar, Rutherglen, Glasgow will be continuing their proud sponsorship of the 2024 SPA Mick McGoldrick IM Series. [b]National Finals[/b] There will be FOUR events again in 2024, each of these will count towards each players' ranking in the series, in addition the Scottish Singles also counts towards each players ranking. Every player is awarded Merit or Ranking Points determined by their position in each event. The National Finals shall be held on the following dates:- Event 1: 13th and 14th April (Players Lounge, Falkirk) Event 2: 29th and 30th June (McGoldrick’s, Glasgow) Event 3: 31st August and 1st September (McGurty’s, Dundee) Event 4: 12th & 13th October (Corner Pocket, Dalkieth) The National Finals will have 128 qualifiers, where the Top 16 from the 2023 rankings are automatic and joined by 112 qualifiers from all over Scotland. In the local qualifying, matches will start as races to seven. Areas shall still be awarded a pro-rata of qualifiers based upon their entries, the more entries an area has, the more qualifiers they shall likely receive for the National Finals. [b]Entry Costs[/b] Entry for the 2024 Series are frozen and remain at £25 per player out with the automatic qualifiers. The entry fee for an automatic qualifier is £75. In addition, each player will have to pay their £5 SPA Member Registration. This is still one of the best value tournaments on offer with all entry money taken in being paid out. Entry is via the nominated SPA IM Reps for each area. [b]No-Shows[/b] Any player that cannot attend the National Finals must inform the SPA a minimum of twenty four hours in advance. Any player that fails to notify the SPA in this time period shall be given a warning. Any player that has received a warning, who fails to notify the SPA in subsequent events shall be removed from the remainder of the IM season in that calendar year. Should a players suspension be incurred at event four then they shall be suspended for the first two IM events from when they next register to compete. [b]*** Looking Ahead to 2025 ***[/b] The IM Series is likely to change in 2025, the Executive Committee are reviewing the series of events and will provide more information in due course. It should be noted though, it is likely to be a reduction in qualifiers to the grand finals – potentially moving to one day for the finals. Further changes with regards to a tiered system may also be introduced, but further consultation shall be undertaken ahead of changes being implemented.

The 2024 SPA Individual membership Series is now open for entries. As always, the number of qualifiers we receive for the National Finals is wholly dependent on our own entry level. The more entries we have, the more qualifiers we will likely receive. If you are interested in playing again (or joining as a new player) please post below or message me directly. The great thing about the IM's is the match practice it offers in races to seven, playing locally at a venue and time convenient to both players. More information is below. Our friends along the dual carriageway in Dundee found themselves in the same position, with only two entries. We've been joined with them to qualify.
